UPDATE:     Modou Lamin Jatta was elected in 11/2024 to be the new CHAIRMAN of the VAAG - Visual Artist Association of The Gambia.

From a young age, Modou Lamin Jatta discovered his innate passion for art, sketching on the covers of schoolbooks, the ground, and even his skin. His early experiences at Bakoteh Primary School and Nusrat Senior Secondary School provided him with a foundation for self-expression, which he nurtured into a lifelong dedication to visual storytelling.

Under the guidance of his cousin, Alagie Badjie, an accomplished artist renowned for his painting and batik techniques, Muhammad honed his skills and deepened his understanding of color, form, and the vibrant narratives inherent in Gambian culture.

Muhammad's art transcends mere visuals, weaving together concepts, emotions, and abstract ideas. Notable themes in his work include the resilience of Gambian women, as showcased in his series highlighting their daily struggles fetching water.
